Client Background & Project Scope

An early education publishing brand designed a turnkey activity kit for retail toy stores and online marketplaces. Parents and educators wanted an all-in-one creative pack: a large-format coloring storybook with thick bleed-proof pages, a set of 12 safe washable markers, and a reusable water-resistant pouch to keep everything organized in backpacks and cars.

While the creative concept was strong, the client had no prior experience in sourcing stationery hardware, certifying marker chemical inks, or engineering custom PVC storage pouches, and approached Xinyi Printing for a complete end-to-end OEM solution.

Key Manufacturing & Technical Challenges

During project onboarding and engineering evaluation, our technical team identified several critical manufacturing hurdles:

Challenge 1: Undefined Bundle Architecture & Sourcing Specs: The client lacked detailed engineering drawings for marker tip durability, plastic casing molds, or pouch dimensions.

Challenge 2: Stringent Child Chemical Safety & Washability: Children’s markers face the highest regulatory scrutiny under US CPSIA, ASTM D-4236, and European EN71-3. Inks had to be 100% non-toxic, heavy-metal free, and easily washable from skin, clothing, and tabletops with warm water.

Challenge 3: Marker Ink Bleed-Through on Coloring Pages: Standard coloring books use thin 70–80gsm paper, which bleeds heavily when toddlers repeatedly color with wet markers.

Challenge 4: Multi-Tier Supply Chain Integration & Assembly: Synchronizing book offset printing, OEM stationery manufacturing, PVC bag production, and manual kitting within a strict commercial timeline.

Xinyi Engineering Solutions & Production Execution

1. Video Consultation & Physical Sample Showcase

Xinyi conducted live video consultations with the client’s product team, showcasing various marker tip styles, pouch thicknesses, and paper weights from our sample archives. This enabled the client to finalize marker and pouch dimensions within 48 Std..

2. Heavyweight 140gsm Bleed-Resistant Offset Paper Selection

We selected a premium 140gsm high-density woodfree paper with internal sizing treatment. This heavy substrate absorbs wet marker ink instantly without bleeding through to the reverse side or buckling under heavy ink saturation.

3. Certified OEM Marker Sourcing & Third-Party Lab Testing

We partnered with an audited stationery OEM to manufacture 12-color dual-tip markers featuring ventilated safety caps and water-based washable inks. We commissioned Intertek/SGS laboratory testing, verifying full compliance with ASTM D-4236, Cpsia, and EN71-3, and issued an official Children’s Product Certificate (CPC).

4. Custom Reusable Eco-PVC Zipper Storage Pouch

We engineered a 0.25mm transparent eco-PVC zipper pouch (250x290mm + 315mm header) tailored to hold the 8.5×11″ book and marker box snugly. The pouch features reinforced heat-welded seams and a smooth-glide slider zipper.

5. Integrated Kitting Line & Two-Tier Split Logistics

Our assembly facility deployed a dedicated kitting line: workers inserted one custom coloring book and one marker box into each PVC pouch, sealing and packing them into 5-ply export cartons. An initial priority batch was air-freighted for launch day, while the main cargo shipped via container ocean freight.
